Deputy Chief Charlie Butterfield started his firefighting career with the City of Sun Valley Fire Department in 1996. After completing paramedic school, he was hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic by Wood River Fire and Rescue and rose through the ranks to the position of Lieutenant/Paramedic in 2006. In 2013, Charlie was appointed as the Assistant Fire Chief for the City of Sun Valley Fire Department until accepting the Division Chief of Planning position for the Meridian Fire Department in 2016. He was promoted to Deputy Chief of Operations in 2018.

Chief Butterfield holds an Associate’s degree in Fire Service Technology, a Bachelor’s degree in Fire and Emergency Services Administration, and a Master’s degree in Education from Colorado State University. He is Pro-Board certified as a Fire Officer II and in 2015 obtained the designation of Chief Fire Officer (CFO) from the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Additionally, Chief Butterfield is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy.

In his spare time, Charlie enjoys traveling, snow skiing, boating and spending time with his son Bryson and his wife Amy.
