Ron was hired as a volunteer firefighter with Salt Lake County Fire Department in 1974. In August of 1977, he was hired as a full time firefighter with Salt Lake County Fire Department. In 1980, Ron attended paramedic school at Weber State College and graduated with his paramedic certification. He quickly moved up the ladder at Salt Lake County Fire/Unified Fire Authority being promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, and finally appointed to the rank of Deputy Chief, where he served for eight years, he also served as the lead person for Salt Lake County Fire during the 2002 Winter Olympics, before retiring in March 2005. Ron worked as a Flight Paramedic for AIRMED at the University of Utah for twelve years.
In March of 2005 Ron was appointed the Utah State Fire Marshal by Governor John M Huntsman. Ron was the seventh State Fire Marshal in Utah history. In December of 2010 Ron accepted the position of fire chief for the City of South Salt Lake in Utah where he currently works.
Ron has an Associates degree in Fire Science from Utah Valley State College, and a Bachelors degree in Public Emergency Services Management (Magna Cum Laude) from Utah Valley University.
Ron is a life-long resident of Utah. He and his wife, Becky, are the parents of three children and have six grandchildren.
