Ryan Sommers

Ryan Sommers, a native of Incline Village, joined the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (NLTFPD) in September 1995, beginning his career in the Dispatch Center. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration and advanced through the ranks, becoming Firefighter in early 1997 and progressing through various roles before being appointed Fire Chief in 2016.

Ryan actively participates in numerous local and statewide boards and committees, demonstrating his commitment to public safety and emergency management. His affiliations include:

  • Operations Section Chief and Incident Commander on the Sierra Front Incident Management Team
  • Current voting member and past Chairman of Sierra Front Wildfire Cooperators
  • Voting member and past Chair of the Washoe County Shared Radio System Users Committee
  • Current Chair of the Washoe County Shared Radio System Joint Operations Committee
  • Past voting member of the Nevada State Emergency Response Committee (SERC) – Governor-appointed position
  • Board Member of Nevada Project Heartbeat
  • Member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs
  • Current voting member and past President of the Lake Tahoe Regional Fire Chiefs Association
  • First Alternate for Operations Area Coordinator for CalOES Tahoe Basin (XTB)
  • Member of the Washoe County Emergency Preparedness Committee
  • Current voting member of the Nevada Intrastate Mutual Aid Committee (IMAC)

Chief Sommers’ leadership and extensive involvement ensure the district remains at the forefront of fire and life safety in the region.
