Barry Hutchings has dedicated over 26 years of his professional career to public safety. He began his fire service career with Douglas County Fire District No. 2 as a Firefighter in Roseburg, OR. After rising through the ranks, he was hired by the Sutherlin Fire Department in 2002 to lead their organization as their Fire Chief. Barry initially retired from the fire service in 2007, the same year he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Management.

Barry entered into the private sector shortly after earning his degree and soon realized he wasn’t quite done with the fire service. In 2008, Barry went back to his roots and began working for Douglas County Fire District No. 2 for another 10 years.

After formally retiring from the fire service in 2018, he served as an ISO Field Representative for Oregon, California, Nevada, and Alaska for 4 years. In early 2022, Barry started working for the Western Fire Chiefs Association as their Senior Operations Advisor. He is responsible for leading and organizing new initiatives such as WFCA’s partnership and offerings with Public Safety Towers Company and exploring other avenues that could benefit the overall fire service.
